Join the Lab

We welcome motivated undergraduate and graduate students interested in nutrition, cardiovascular health, and public health to join our research team.

Undergraduate students have opportunities to assist with data collection, literature reviews, and community outreach projects, gaining valuable hands-on research experience. For graduate students, we offer mentorship in designing and conducting independent research projects aligned with our lab's focus areas. If you're excited about contributing to cutting-edge nutrition and health research, see the options below to contact us to discuss current openings and how your interests align with our work.

Undergraduate Students

Volunteer for Course Credit

Students can receive course credit by signing up for PUBHLTH 198 (Directed Studies) or PUBHLTH 199 (Undergraduate Research). It is recommended to reach out to Dr. Landry and discuss potential independent study opportunities and number of units several months before an academic quarter begins.

Volunteer Ad-Hoc (Not for credit)

Opportunities to volunteer without course credit are available on an as-needed basis depending on our ongoing projects. We prioritize students based on 1) ability to commit to volunteering for at least 2 academic quarters; 2) students earlier in their undergraduate career vs seniors; and 3) students in the Joe C. Wen School of Population and Public Health.

Public Health Honors

The Public Health Honors Program provides an opportunity for selected outstanding students in public health to pursue advanced work in independent research and earn honors in Public Health upon graduation. Successful completion of the honors program requires three quarters of commitment.

Campuswide Honors Collegium (CHC)

Requirements to complete Campuswide Honors can vary depending on when a student enters the program. All honors students must engage in research for a minimum of two quarters, which culminates in an honors thesis, creative project, or publication-quality paper.

Graduate Students

PhD in Public Health

Dr. Landry is a graduate faculty member for students in the Biobehavioral Mechanisms of Health and Disease Prevention concentrations of the PhD in Public Health Program and an affiliated faculty for the PhD in Epidemiology. It is expected that students will need 5 years to complete the program. All students admitted in to the program are funded through Graduate Student Research (GSR) or Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) positions for up to five years.

We value diverse academic backgrounds that can contribute unique perspectives to our interdisciplinary work. A background in nutrition or dietetics is not required for prospective PhD students joining our lab. However, candidates should possess a general understanding of public health challenges, research methods, applied research, and their application to contemporary and emerging trends in public health. Our lab primarily utilizes public health and population-based methods, rather than "wet-bench" molecular or cellular-based approaches. Prospective students should be familiar with some basic public health methods. Our research typically involves direct engagement with individuals, families, and local communities, making strong interpersonal skills essential.

How to Apply:

  1. Review all admissions requirements here: https://publichealth.uci.edu/admission/graduate-admission/ . Please note that a GRE score is required for admission.

  2. Prospective students interested in joining our lab should reach out directly to Dr. Landry via email, including a copy of their current CV, to discuss potential opportunities and ensure alignment of research interests.
